Week 10 was an interesting week! It has been extremely hot here, and have even had the advice to not go out in the polluted air and heat, especially to exercise! We have a nice cool office, and go out to get warmed up, and come back in! Also it was another Holiday on April 1, their Labor day!
On Wed morning we went with a group of couples to the Beehive Clothing factory! That was an amazing tour, and so fascinating! 4,000 plus garments are made every day! They get the material here in the Philippines for the womens and mens cotton garments! The US sends the lace, thread, and elastic! They make them, package them, and send them back to America! It was very interesting, and I could not believe how they cut them out and every station sews different parts, and they are all so fast! They hire 41 employees and they all have to have current temple recommends, what a special place! The men came back to their offices, and we went on to tour another area of making wheelchairs, and wood toys, by hand, and everyone was in a wheelchair, in out side buildings, and it was so hot! It was interesting, but the traffic was terrible and took longer, and Richard was lucky he came back early!
On Thursday and Friday, We didn't leave the apartment. Richard was pretty sick with the flu or something else, he worked in the office from home the whole time, but he didn't feel good, By Sat. we went out and got his hair cut, and you could tell he had been sick, he was still pretty weak, and lost about 7 lbs, and it didn't take us long to walk back to our apartment! No Fun! I got the house cleaned, wash done, ironing done, did a lot of reading, left him once and went walking around Eastwood! He wasn't eating, so I didn't do much cooking! Just relaxed and took care of my wonderful companion!
It was good to be back to the office on Monday! Tuesday, they made arrangements to have a clown Dr. go to Mabuhay house, so we, by we, I mean , there are about 5 Sisters, whose husbands work in the area, as the AMA, or at the MRC, went in the afternoon! The children and adults loved him and were very entertained! There were 17 children there with their parents, which is a lot of people for that house! The children were so happy to see us again! When I got back to the office, Richard said we had been invited to a Global Affair with all the Ambassadors in the Philippines! It was at a very fancy Hotel, and a very nice event! We rushed home, and got dressed in a suit, and my best, and a couple picked us up, and we were off! It was a public affairs thing for us, to mingle with the rich people and be friendly and to represent America and the Church! We talked to several Ambassadors, ate delicious finger foods, I mean like the best roast, shrimp on sticks, deserts, breads, little bit of everything! Everyone in, in fancy dresses and suits! We just mingled and ate, walking around, talking to everyone, proudly wearing our name tags! Then there was a program of a fashion show where the Lady and Men Ambassadors did a modeling show! It was to earn money for Tacloban Flood victims, and etc! They had a lot of sponsors, and It was entertaining and fun to me! Richard thought the fashion show went a little long! We had a great time, and enjoyed the experience! It was a late night for us though!
They are promoting MEET THE MORMONS here in the Philippines, and they have had a Filipino celebrity from America here! He came here on his mission, and he comes to the public affairs office and helps with the promotion, and everyone gets so excited, when he comes to the office, they love him in the Philippines, I didn't even know about him! Anyway it has been fun and we had our picture taken with him! His name is Dwaine Woolley!
Like I said, it has been a fun busy week, full of work, service, miracles, and doing the Lords work! The best part is the Spirit we feel as we do what we do, and serve with other missionaries and talk and help Mission Presidents and the Area Presidency! We are happy and content as we continue to see missionaries and people we know and love from the past! Richard is ever busy, and is on the computer, almost from the time he gets up, till he goes to bed! It is amazing work and he is understanding his responsibilities more every day! I am so proud of him!
We want to wish all of you Mothers a Happy Mothers Day, and thank you for the influence you have been in our lives, we love you all and give thanks for such a wonderful family! Thanks again for your prayers and support!
Love,
